Your Child Deserves Excellence.
Faith. Small Class Sizes.

St. Peter Christian School is now enrolling for its inaugural, fully-accredited kindergarten class, opening fall 2026 in Northlake, TX. Your child will learn in a brand-new, purpose-built facility with small class sizes, a TEKS-aligned curriculum, daily faith formation, and a lead teacher with more than 25 years of classroom experience. This is a full-time, five-day-per-week program designed to give kindergarteners a strong academic and spiritual foundation from day one.

What Your Child Will Learn

Our kindergarten curriculum blends rigorous academics with a joyful, hands-on approach and a strong foundation of faith. Here's what your child will be working on throughout the year.

Reading and Language Arts

Reading in kindergarten is about building confidence and a love for books. Children learn letter sounds, phonics, and early comprehension through playful, hands-on activities. By the end of the year, your child will be blending sounds to read simple words, recognizing high-frequency "heart words," and retelling stories using characters, setting, and key events.

Writing

Writing focuses on building fine motor skills, proper letter formation, and the confidence to express ideas on paper. Children practice writing their names, creating labels, and composing simple sentences. Invented spelling is encouraged as a healthy part of the developmental process.

Mathematics

Math develops strong number sense through counting, comparing, patterns, shapes, and problem-solving. Children work with numbers 0-20, explore simple addition and subtraction using objects and pictures, and build measurement and data skills using everyday language. Instruction starts hands-on with manipulatives and games, then moves to drawings and paper.

Science

Science sparks curiosity about God's world. Children explore plants, animals, weather, seasons, and simple experiments, learning to ask questions, observe carefully, and talk about what they discover.

Social Studies

Social studies helps children learn about themselves, family, school, and community. Through engaging activities, they explore rules, traditions, and how to care for and respect others, building a foundation for good citizenship and kindness.

Faith

Faith formation is woven into every part of the kindergarten day, not treated as a separate subject. Through Bible stories, prayer, and service, children grow in love, kindness, and understanding of God. Our spiritual formation curriculum, Enduring Faith, helps children build a personal relationship with God through age-appropriate lessons that guide daily life and build a caring heart.

How We Teach

Learning at St. Peter happens through small-group instruction, learning centers, hands-on manipulatives, read-alouds, storytelling, and guided practice that builds independence and confidence. Daily routines reinforce kindness, respect, and responsibility alongside academic growth.

Our curriculum uses:

  • HMH and IXL for language arts and reading
  • Amplify Math for mathematics
  • Nancy Larson for science
  • Enduring Faith for spiritual formation

Technology is used purposefully in short sessions for skill reinforcement, not as a substitute for teacher-led instruction. The emphasis is always on hands-on learning, rich classroom conversation, and building your child's confidence as a learner.

Meet Your Kindergarten Teacher

Karla Balduc holds a Master's degree in education with a specialization in reading and brings more than 25 years of classroom experience to your child's kindergarten year. She currently teaches our Pre-K 4 program, where families consistently value her warmth, patience, and ability to help young learners grow confident and curious. Karla believes kindergarten is about building a love of learning, not just teaching skills. She creates a classroom where children feel safe to take risks, ask questions, and discover their own potential.

The Kindergarten Day

The core kindergarten day runs from 8:00 AM to 3:00 PM, five days a week. Before care is available starting at 7:00 AM and after care extends to 5:00 PM, giving working families flexibility without compromising their child's learning experience.

A typical day includes morning meeting and devotional time, core academic instruction, structured play and exploration, fine arts and physical education, outdoor play, and small-group learning. The rhythm of the day is intentional: it balances focused instruction with movement, creativity, and rest so your child stays engaged and energized.

Is Your Child Ready for Kindergarten?

We look for developmental readiness, not perfection. Children entering kindergarten at St. Peter should generally be able to:

  • Follow simple, multi-step directions
  • Separate from parents during the school day
  • Recognize some letters and numbers
  • Use the bathroom independently
  • Write or attempt their first name
  • Listen to stories and speak in sentences
  • Hold a pencil or crayon and use scissors
  • Play and interact appropriately with peers

If your child is close on some of these skills, that's completely normal. We meet children where they are and build from there. Families currently in our preschool program will find the transition to kindergarten especially smooth, since children already know the teachers, routines, and friendships that carry over.

The Founding Kindergarten Class

This is the first kindergarten class in St. Peter Christian School history. Your child won't just be starting school. They'll be starting the school. The founding class will be an intimate cohort with the kind of personal attention and community that only happens at the very beginning of something special. Families who join now have the opportunity to shape this program as it grows, building traditions and relationships that will define St. Peter for years to come.
