Faith-Based Kindergarten Preparation Just Minutes from Corinth

Our Pre-K program is specifically designed to build a strong foundation for kindergarten success while nurturing your child's spiritual growth. With experienced Christian educators and a comprehensive curriculum, we're committed to developing well-rounded children who are ready to thrive in elementary school and beyond.

Pre-K Program Overview

St. Peter's Pre-K program serves children who are 4 years old by September 1 of the enrolled school year. Our program is thoughtfully designed to prepare children for the academic, social, and spiritual challenges and opportunities of kindergarten.

The Pre-K class is designed to ready students for the rigors and expectations of kindergarten. Indicators of readiness that we nurture include:

  • Language and Literacy: Beginning to recognize rhyming words, showing awareness that some words begin the same way, recognizing as many as 10 letters, and producing the correct sound for several letters
  • Cognition and General Development: Using more details in experiences, beginning to apply experiences to new situations, and beginning to interact with other children during dramatic play
  • Approaches to Learning: Sustaining work on interesting tasks while ignoring most distractions and beginning to use a variety of resources to find answers to questions

Our program operates from 9am to 2pm and offers flexible scheduling options with 2, 3, 4, or 5 days per week, allowing Corinth families to choose the arrangement that best fits their needs.

Faith-Based Curriculum with Kindergarten Readiness Focus

Academic Foundations with Biblical Integration

Our Pre-K curriculum provides comprehensive academic preparation while integrating Christian faith throughout the learning experience. Children develop essential pre-academic skills within a framework that recognizes God as the source of all knowledge and truth.

Key academic areas include:

  • Early Literacy: Phonological awareness, letter recognition, print concepts, oral language development, and early writing skills
  • Mathematics: Number recognition, counting, patterns, shapes, measurement, and beginning problem-solving
  • Science: Exploration, observation, prediction, and discovery of God's creation
  • Social Studies: Community awareness, cultural appreciation, and understanding social relationships

All academic content is taught from a Christian perspective, helping children see connections between what they're learning and their developing faith. Read our article, Eight Reasons to Choose a Gospel-Centered Christian School for more on why this is important.

Spiritual Formation Activities

Daily spiritual formation is an integral part of our Pre-K program. Children participate in:

  • Daily religion lessons and Bible stories
  • Prayer times throughout the day
  • Christian songs and worship
  • Character development based on biblical virtues
  • Service projects that teach compassion and generosity

These spiritual activities help children develop a foundation of faith that will guide them throughout their lives.

Social-Emotional Development

Kindergarten readiness involves more than academic skills. Our Pre-K program emphasizes social-emotional development to prepare children for the social aspects of elementary school:

  • Building positive relationships with peers and adults
  • Developing self-regulation and emotional management
  • Learning to follow directions and classroom routines
  • Practicing problem-solving and conflict resolution skills
  • Growing in independence and responsibility
  • Developing empathy and compassion for others

These social-emotional skills are taught from a Christian perspective, emphasizing biblical principles like kindness, forgiveness, and respect for others.

Frequently Asked Questions

How does St. Peter's Pre-K program specifically prepare children for kindergarten?

Our Pre-K program focuses on developing the skills and dispositions that research shows are essential for kindergarten readiness. This includes pre-reading skills (letter recognition, phonological awareness), pre-math skills (number recognition, counting, patterns), fine motor development for writing, listening and following directions, social skills for classroom participation, and self-help skills for greater independence.

We also emphasize executive function skills like focusing attention, following multi-step instructions, and self-regulation—all crucial for kindergarten success. Our balanced approach ensures children develop these skills while maintaining the joy of learning through play-based and hands-on activities.
